Justin Maser is an Oklahoma-based artist who uses art to express the wonderment of our imagination, evoking a childlike fascination with ordinary, everyday landscapes and transforming them into colorful, otherworldly pieces.
While this self-taught artist has only been painting since 2021, his passion for art started at a young age. Growing up, drawing and writing were his main mediums. He began raising a family at a young age, and that became his top priority. With his children now grown, he’s picked back up these early passions and artistic pursuits. He remains a student in life and everything he does. His belief is that no matter how much you think you know, you can always learn more and expand upon anything. His inspirations come from everyday life. He tries to find the positives in every situation, and that vibrant zeal comes through in his artwork.
He believes his artwork evokes a childlike imagination of the natural world. He tries to capture everyday landscapes but convert them into colorful, magical wonderlands that allow the viewer to want to transpose themselves into these otherworldly terrains.
He achieves this through multiple layers of oils, referencing photos and imagination for different color schemes, occasionally using acrylics as the underpainting to aid in time. He works with wide flat brushes along with pallet knives to get the desired look and effect.
