Bert Seabourn (1931–2022) was a celebrated American expressionist painter, born in Redbarn, Texas. From an early age, he was drawn to art—selling his first cartoon to King Features Syndicate while still in the eighth grade. After graduating high school, Seabourn served in the U.S. Navy, where he created and illustrated training manuals and later became the art director for the Navy’s monthly magazine.
Following his military service, he studied art at Oklahoma City University, where he was influenced by painter and instructor Roger White. It was there that Seabourn began exploring abstract expressionism, the style that would come to define much of his career. His distinctive work often blended Native imagery—faces, animals, and celestial elements—with dynamic compositions and bold, expressive forms.
Throughout his career, Seabourn earned over 100 awards for painting and graphic design and exhibited widely across the United States. In 1976, he was honored as a Master Artist by the Five Civilized Tribes Museum in Muskogee, Oklahoma. His work is held in numerous prestigious collections, including those of The White House in Washington, D.C., the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona, and the Vatican Museum of Modern Religious Art in Vatican City.
